What is Nutritional therapy?
Nutritional therapy is an evidence-based approach to maximizing your health through individually tailored nutritional and lifestyle changes. It can be safely used alongside conventional medicine and other types of therapies.
It has its base in Functional medicine - a holistic and personalized approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of diseases, particularly chronic conditions. It emphasizes a patient-centred model that considers the interactions between genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors.
Personalised nutrition consultations are relevant for individuals with small minor health niggles, through to chronic or long-term conditions and illnesses. Recommendations are not replacement for medical advice. Practitioners do not diagnose or treat disease; they frequently work alongside medical professionals to support individual`s wellbeing. If necessary, the therapist may recommend laboratory tests to identify nutritional deficiencies, food intolerances, or biochemical imbalances. These tests can provide valuable insights into the client's metabolic and digestive health. Genetic Profiling: In some cases, personalized nutrition plans may be tailored to the client's genetic profile. Advances in genetic testing allow therapists to create diet plans that consider how an individual's unique genetic makeup.
“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need. “ (Ayurvedic proverb)
“Proper nutrition is the difference between feeling exhausted and getting the most out of a workout.” (Summer Sanders)
“To ensure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness and maintain an interest in life. (William Londen)

Follow up sessions are important for maintaining accountability and providing ongoing support to help you achieve your health goals.
What is functional LAB testing?
Functional lab testing is not always required, but in some circumstances, it might be an important part of the therapy. Functional lab testing is highly personalized, focusing on the unique biomarkers and physiological processes of each individual. Unlike conventional lab tests, that often focus on diagnosing diseases based on standard ranges, functional lab tests aim to uncover the root causes of health issues. By evaluating a wide range of biomarkers, these tests help detect underlying imbalances and potential health issues long before they become symptoms.
Supplements
It can be difficult to achieve certain nutrients level through diet alone. Supplements can help address specific nutrient deficiencies when dietary intake is insufficient. For example, vitamin B12 supplements may be recommended for vegans or those with compromised digestion (low stomach acid) Older adults may benefit from certain supplements due to decreased nutrient absorption or limited sun exposure. Calcium and vitamin D supplements are sometimes recommended for bone health in this age group. In some cases, supplements can provide a convenient way to boost nutrient intake, especially for those with busy lifestyles or limited access to varied food sources.
The high-quality supplements can provide several potential benefits when used appropriately. It is important to note that supplements are not a substitute for a balanced diet. The goal should always be to achieve optimal nutrition primarily through a varied and balanced diet, with supplements serving as a complement when needed. The effectiveness and safety of supplements can vary, and some may interact with medications or have side effects. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement.
